White Cap to Acquire Iowa Distributor Gierke Robinson

White Cap expands in a core construction supply market

White Cap has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the business of Gierke Robinson Company, Inc., extending the distributor’s reach in the Upper Midwest and reinforcing its position in specialty construction supplies. The target company distributes concrete accessories and tools and also provides equipment rental and repair services, serving concrete, paving, and general contractors across Eastern Iowa, Western Illinois, and Southwest Wisconsin.

Founded in 1919, Gierke Robinson brings more than a century of market presence to the transaction. Its footprint includes four Iowa locations: Davenport, Bettendorf, Dubuque, and Waterloo. For White Cap, those branches add density in a region where local service, contractor relationships, and jobsite responsiveness remain critical differentiators.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The deal fits White Cap’s strategy of building scale in specialized construction categories while broadening geographic coverage. White Cap said the acquisition will expand its presence and product offering in the Midwest. That matters in distribution because branch proximity, inventory availability, and technical support often determine whether a contractor consolidates spend with one supplier or splits purchases across several vendors.

What each company brings to the table

White Cap is already a major player in the market, supplying concrete accessories and chemicals, tools and equipment, building materials and fasteners, erosion and waterproofing products, and safety products to professional contractors. According to the company, it operates approximately 575 branches across North America, employs more than 12,000 people, and supports about 200,000 customers.

Gierke Robinson is much smaller, but strategically relevant. In industrial and construction distribution, acquisitions are not only about adding revenue. They are also about adding local trust, experienced field teams, and service capabilities that are difficult to replicate quickly. Gierke Robinson’s combination of product distribution with rental and repair services gives White Cap more touchpoints with contractors throughout the equipment lifecycle.

That service layer is especially important. For distributors in construction-adjacent markets, rentals and repairs can deepen customer loyalty because they keep the distributor engaged after the initial sale. They also provide recurring interactions that help sales teams identify future demand for tools, accessories, consumables, and replacement equipment.

In a company statement, White Cap CEO Alan Sollenberger said, “Gierke Robinson has had an incredible reputation as an expert in construction equipment for more than a century.” He added that the combination would help the companies offer customers expanded presence and greater service capabilities in a growing Midwestern market.

Why the acquisition matters to distributors

For distributors watching M&A activity, this transaction highlights several themes shaping the sector in 2026.

  • Geographic density still matters. Even in an increasingly digital sales environment, construction supply distribution remains operationally local.

  • Specialization is valuable. Distributors with technical expertise in concrete, paving, and equipment support remain attractive acquisition targets.

  • Services strengthen the model. Rental and repair capabilities can improve retention and create cross-selling opportunities beyond product sales alone.

  • Regional acquisitions can accelerate growth faster than greenfield expansion, especially where established customer relationships are hard to win.

For wholesale distributors, the practical takeaway is that buyers continue to prize businesses that combine niche product knowledge with dependable field execution. A branch network by itself is useful, but a branch network with trained associates, contractor credibility, and complementary services is far more strategic.

The deal also reflects continued consolidation in fragmented construction distribution channels. Larger distributors want broader line cards and tighter regional networks, while customers increasingly expect both local expertise and national-scale supply reliability. Acquisitions like this one are a direct response to that pressure.

Implications for supply chain and customer service

From a supply chain perspective, White Cap’s acquisition of Gierke Robinson should improve network coverage in a market where delivery speed and branch-level availability can directly affect project timelines. More regional nodes can support better inventory positioning, faster fulfillment, and stronger responsiveness during peak construction demand.

For customers, the likely appeal is a wider set of solutions under one supplier relationship. For White Cap, the upside is not just greater market share, but a stronger ability to bundle products, equipment access, and service support for contractors managing complex jobsites.

Terry Kilburg, owner of Gierke Robinson Company, said in the release, “Joining White Cap will allow us to serve our customers with expanded solutions, greater resources, and the same dedication to exceptional service that has always defined our company.”

That quote captures the central logic of many distribution acquisitions: the buyer gains local market strength, and the seller’s customers gain access to broader scale. If integration is handled well, this kind of transaction can improve both service depth and supply chain resilience without sacrificing the local relationships that made the acquired distributor valuable in the first place.
