MCE Acquires Texas Pump Distributor

Deal expands MCE’s engineered distribution footprint

Motion & Control Enterprises has acquired MJ Systems LLC, a Texas-based distributor focused on chemical injection pump systems, related equipment and aftermarket parts. The move gives MCE added scale in a specialized industrial distribution niche tied closely to petrochemical and oil and gas operations across the Gulf Coast.

MJ Systems operates its main location in suburban Houston and a second facility near New Orleans. From those sites, the company serves customers in Texas, Louisiana and southern Mississippi. That regional coverage matters in wholesale distribution because end users in process industries often require local inventory access, field knowledge and fast support for installed equipment.

For MCE, the acquisition adds both product depth and technical capability. In an announcement, Chairman and CEO Charles Hale said the addition of MJ Systems “provides MCE with an expanded set of highly engineered products and technical expertise that adds scale to our growing Gulf Coast presence.”

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

What MJ Systems brings to the combined business

Founded in 2007 by Matt Schroeder, MJ Systems has built its position around a focused offering rather than broadline distribution. That specialization is significant. In industrial markets, distributors that center on engineered flow control and chemical injection applications typically compete on application knowledge, service responsiveness and aftermarket support as much as on product availability.

That makes MJ Systems a useful fit for an acquirer like MCE. Distributors pursuing platform growth are often looking for businesses that are hard to replicate organically. Installed-base relationships, technical sales talent and application-specific aftermarket demand can create stickier customer ties than standard commodity lines.

Schroeder will continue to lead the business under MCE, which suggests an emphasis on continuity for customers and suppliers. In distribution M&A, leadership retention can be a practical advantage, especially when the acquired company serves process customers that value long-standing technical contacts and service familiarity.

Schroeder said in the same release, “The combination with MCE positions our company to better serve the current and future needs of our customers and suppliers.” He added that MCE’s resources “will help support our growth initiatives.”

Why this acquisition matters for distributors

This deal stands out less for size than for what it says about current distribution strategy. Industrial distributors continue to use acquisitions to strengthen regional density, add engineered product expertise and widen exposure to resilient end markets. Gulf Coast industrial activity remains attractive because petrochemical and energy customers often require high-service supply relationships and ongoing replacement parts support.

For distributors watching the market, several takeaways emerge:

  • Specialized distributors remain valuable targets when they bring technical know-how and recurring aftermarket demand.
  • Geographic clustering still matters, particularly in industrial corridors where service speed and field support influence purchasing decisions.
  • Supplier relationships can become more strategic after a deal if the buyer can provide broader coverage without disrupting local execution.
  • Acquisitions that retain existing leadership may reduce customer churn risk in technically demanding categories.

The transaction is also notable because it is MCE’s fourth acquisition of 2026. That pace indicates a deliberate buy-and-build approach rather than an isolated purchase. In distribution, repeated acquisitions can help create cross-selling opportunities, improve branch coverage and build denser service networks around targeted verticals.

MCE’s broader position in industrial distribution

MCE’s acquisition activity comes with the backing of a meaningful existing platform. In Industrial Distribution’s 2025 Big 50 ranking, Motion & Control Enterprises was listed at No. 33, with 2024 sales of $488 million, headquarters in Zelienople, Pennsylvania, 58 locations and 725 employees. That profile helps explain why smaller, specialized distributors may see strategic value in joining the company.

For the broader wholesale distribution sector, the acquisition reinforces a familiar theme: scale alone is not enough. The most effective growth stories increasingly combine regional reach with technical specialization. A distributor that can pair local branch presence with expertise in engineered systems is often better positioned to support uptime, maintenance planning and supply chain reliability for industrial customers.

In that sense, MCE’s purchase of MJ Systems is a targeted capability play. It increases the company’s exposure to Gulf Coast process industries, adds a differentiated product and service set, and keeps experienced local leadership in place. For distributors evaluating their own M&A pipelines, that combination offers a clear signal about what remains attractive in today’s market: specialized knowledge, strong regional positions and aftermarket-driven customer relationships.
