OmniCable Acquires Illinois Wire, Cable Distributor

OmniCable adds Kingwire to expand electrical distribution reach

OmniCable, LLC has completed its acquisition of Kingwire from Kinderhook Industries, strengthening its position in wire and cable redistribution across North America. Announced on August 27, 2026, the deal brings together two businesses that serve electrical distributors with overlapping but distinct capabilities in stock, project, and specialty wire and cable supply. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

OmniCable, a Dot Family Holdings company based in West Chester, Pennsylvania, describes itself as one of North America’s largest redistributors of wire, cable, fiber, and related electrical and communications products. The company says it carries roughly $400 million in inventory across 18 North American distribution locations. Kingwire, headquartered in North Chicago, Illinois, operates eight warehouses totaling more than 625,000 square feet and focuses on low- and medium-voltage wire and cable, especially through distributor stock programs and company-branded aluminum products.

For wholesale distributors, the combination is notable because it does not center on branch overlap reduction or brand consolidation. Instead, both companies will keep their existing brands and locations, signaling that the strategy is about adding coverage, product depth, and service capabilities rather than folding one platform into the other.

Why this combination matters to distributors

The clearest takeaway for distributors is that OmniCable is broadening its stock-program capabilities while adding greater aluminum wire strength and access to utility-oriented demand. In the electrical channel, those are meaningful advantages at a time when infrastructure work, data center construction, grid investment, and electrification continue to support demand patterns that can be hard to serve consistently.

Chris Breslin, CEO of OmniCable, said in the company’s announcement, “Kingwire represents a complementary offering to our core, special order business by strengthening our DSP and aluminum offerings and providing us access to the utility channel.”

That comment is important because it frames the transaction as a capability expansion, not simply a scale play. OmniCable has long been associated with broad redistribution and special-order support. Kingwire adds another layer: a heavier orientation toward distributor stock programs, nationwide sales coverage, and branded aluminum products sold into building wire, utility, data center, industrial, and renewable energy markets.

For distributors, this can translate into practical benefits:

  • More product availability across both everyday stock needs and project-driven demand

  • Expanded geographic warehouse reach for faster fulfillment options

  • Additional expertise in aluminum wire categories

  • Broader support for utility and other high-growth end markets

In distribution M&A, the strongest combinations usually solve a channel problem. Here, that problem is balancing inventory breadth, speed, and technical product coverage as customer expectations rise.

Kingwire’s role in the combined platform

Kingwire brings more than warehouse capacity. It also adds a business model built around value-added distribution services and field-ready responsiveness. According to OmniCable’s release, Kingwire supports electrical distributors nationwide with value-added services that include cutting, paralleling, striping, and same-day shipment. Those operating capabilities matter in a market where distributors increasingly compete on turnaround time and order customization as much as on price.

The acquisition also reflects how supply chain strategy in industrial distribution is evolving. Large distributors and redistributors are looking for assets that improve resilience and fill specific product or market gaps. Kingwire appears to offer both. Its footprint and sales network can support broader market coverage, while its exposure to utility, renewable energy, and data center demand aligns with some of the fastest-moving segments in the electrical supply chain.

Joe Tracy, chairman and CEO of Dot Family Holdings, tied the deal directly to that market backdrop in the company’s statement: “This is an exciting opportunity for OmniCable and Kingwire to accelerate growth at a time when rapid electrification across infrastructure, utility, and data center end markets is fueling strong demand for our products and services.”

What the deal signals for industrial distribution M&A

For the broader wholesale distribution sector, this acquisition underscores a continuing M&A theme: buyers are prioritizing operational fit and end-market exposure over simple consolidation math. OmniCable gains warehouse reach, DSP capabilities, aluminum depth, and utility channel access. Kingwire joins a larger redistribution platform with national scale and extensive inventory resources. That is the kind of strategic fit distributors watch closely because it can reshape supplier access and service expectations without disrupting customer relationships overnight.

The fact that each company will retain its brand and current locations should also reassure distributor customers who value continuity. In many industrial markets, trust, service habits, and local execution are hard-earned advantages. Preserving those while expanding the backend network can create a stronger offering if integration is handled well.

William Blair & Company served as financial advisor to OmniCable and Dot Family Holdings, while Lewis Rice LLC served as legal counsel. For distributors, though, the bigger story is less about deal mechanics and more about channel positioning. This transaction creates a larger redistribution platform aimed at helping electrical distributors secure supply, serve high-growth markets, and manage increasingly complex customer requirements.
